  • Robert Hooke with cells

    English physicist Robert Hooke looked at a slice of cork from a cork oak tree using a microscope lens and noticed rectangular boxes and called them cells. He was the first person to use the word cell to identify his observations.
  • Redi disproves spontaneous generation

    Francisco Redi, an Italian physician preformed an experiment in which he had two jars. In one jar there was rotting meat and in the other jar, there was the same meat except it was covered from the top. He had done this experiment to disprove spontaneous generation which is the belief of living things rising from non-living things.
