Defines what a School Resource Officer is, along with other terms. Also, amended to say that only dogs could be brought in to search for illegal substances. -

House Education Committee makes amendment to SB 1 that would mandate all schools to have an armed person in the building for safety purposes. -
Attorney General Speaks Out on SB 1
Greg Zoeller says in a press release he thinks the bill is straying too far from the original intent. "“I’m concerned that Senate Bill 1 is losing its focus on providing a law enforcement presence in our schools. All of the work this past year highlights the value of school resource officers developing the relationship between students and law enforcement in preventing many of the dangers of drugs and weapons in schools. " -
Lawmakers Change Mind on Gun Requirement
The House Ways and Means Committee creates a loop hole in the amendment made by House Education Committee so schools may opt out of the gun requirement.

House Strips Guns in Schools Mandate
Represenative Jud McMillin proposed an amendment today that stripped the language in the bill that requires someone with a gun in school buildings at all times. That portion of the bill will be sent to a study committee for a closer look.
