Working on the Farm
The earlist job that I had was working on our family horse farm. Some of my responsibilities included daily feedings of our horses, cleaning of animals stalls, and daily maintence of fences and feeding areas. -
First Paying Job
The first job that my I was paid for was cleaning my father's veterinary office at the end of each day. This job paid me ten dollars a week to clean animal cages, walk dogs, sweep and mop the floors, and change out the trash cans in my dad's office. This was the first time that I learned the value of a dollar. -
Golphin Dolphin
My first job that I held outside of family employment was working at the Golphin Dolphin go kart raceway in Cape Carteret, NC during the peak of tourist season. I chose to work this job because all of my friends from school worked there, even though I could have made more money working for my dad during the same time period. -
Elon Campus Recreation
At the end of my junior year of college I decided to start working on campus at Elon University Campus Recreation to earn some extra money to help pay my part of the rent for my off campus apartment that I was getting ready to lease. I made minimum wage, but I enjoyed being able to do my homework during slow periods in the gym and being able to work out when I finished my shift. -
First Job After Graduating College
Just after I graduated from Elon University, I was able to find a teaching job at Grimsley High School in Greensboro, NC. This was the first job interview that I had following graduation. Grimsley High School has been the location of where I have been working as a teacher and a coach for the past eight years. -
The YMCA
Shortly after I began teaching at GHS, I started working as building supervisor at the Alamance County, NC YMCA. I took on the job as a way to earn extra income. -
SAT Test Administrator
I became an SAT test administrator to earn extra money once my first daughter was born. The job paid really well for a single day's work, and I worked right from own classroom at Grimsley High School. -
