Betty and Abigail started to exhibited strange behavior such as screaming pushing and rolling on the floor. The doctor said they were the victims of witch craft. -

The 3 "witches"
The girls finally cried out 3 names tituba- salve, Sarah Goode- A homeless beggar, and Sarah Osborne- married her servant. 3 social outcasts despised by the people of Salem. Goode and Osborne remained indecent but Tituba confessed and said that there were other witches in Salem -

Pointing Fingers
The girls started to point more fingers saying that the spirits of the witches would come and hurt them in the night. More than 150 people where in jail at the end of May. Among those people was Rebecca Nurse- a gentle grandmother and church goer, John Procter- a wealthy farmer, and Doris Goode- a 4 year old who spent months chained to a prison wall. -

Salem Witch Trials
The Salem witch trials began June 2nd 1692. 8 days later Bridget Bishop was the first alleged witch to be hanged on Gallows hill. During the coming month 19 more indecent victims were hanged. Among those people was Gorge Burrows. During his hanging he perfectly recited the Lord’s Prayer something an alleged could not do, but this proof did not save him. Another man was pressed to death because he did not admit to be a witch. 4 other men and women would die in jail. -

This continued into October as more accused witches. The girls started to question the girl’s accusations when they said the mayor’s wife was a witch. People began to protest against the girls. The minister spoke out against the trials. He said that “It would be better if ten suspected witches would escape that one innocent person should be condemned.” Governor Fits declared an end to the witch trials, he stopped the educations of the alleged witches and pardoned those still in jail.
