    favorite kids book
My favorite kids book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It was the first book I ever checked out from the school library.

    Bible
Growing up my mother forced me to read the bible to her before I went to bed. I was never that religious, so I really hated it. Eventually I stopped having to read it to her and I haven't read it since.
  • Sunday school

    Sunday school
My parents forced me to attend sunday school every week. We read a various number of books. I don't remember the names of the books but I do remember I disliked all of them. I was kicked out for not wanting to participate in any of the class readings and other activities.
  • Feeling iliterate

I had to give a short speech about earth day in front of my second grade class. English isn't my first language, so I really struggled and felt embarrassed. That was the first time I felt illiterate.

    1st library card
In elementary school, my class would walk to the local library once a month. This would be around the time I got my first library card. Sadly I didn't get to use it much as I wasn't the biggest reader.

In elementary school, instead of reading books I would read magazines. My 4th grade teacher didn't consider magazines good reading material. I was punished and forced to read the same books as the other kids.

Banned from the school book fair
Every year my elementary school would host a school book fair. Our class would take a trip to the book fair to buy books. I didn't have any money so I stole a sports magazine that I really wanted for my collection. I eventually got caught and was told I could never go back. But I got to keep my magazine.
  • Sport Magazine Collecting

    Sport Magazine Collecting
I used to collect sport magazines. My grandfather would give me all of his old sport magazines to keep and read. I didn't collect a specific sport. I always found all the different magazine covers fascinating. At one point I had close to 200 magazines. They are now kept in my grandfather's attic somewhere.
  • Social Media

    Social Media
In middle school I created a Facebook. I was persuaded to making one by my friends. This was probably the first time I started interacting with others on the internet.
  • Hating English Class

My freshman year in high school was the first time I ever failed a class. I failed my english class which led me to start hating it. I hated the readings and the writing, and I just felt I wasn't as good as the other students. Ever since failing that class, I have considered myself a bad reader and writer.
