As the crowd size had increased Cossack troops shot at the Nevsky Prospect crowd. Most factories were closed by now -
Protests becomes more political
Crowds angered at Alexandra, suspected to be a German spy. Russian people had also had enough with the war calling for it to end.
Nicholas refused to form a new government,
Troops refused to fire into the crowds and began to mutiny -
The government losses control
Troops and police joined the protests. Government loses control of Petrograd. People called for the Duma to replace the Tsar. -
Creation of the Provisional Government
Duma established a committee to assume the power of the government (Provisional Government).
Petrograd Soviet of Workers and Soldiers created. Immediately issued Order No.1: Troops were only to accept instructions that the Soviet agreed with. -
Tsar attempts to return
The Tsar is unable to get his train into Petrograd. There were no longer any troops in Petrograd that were loyal to the regime.
Soviets were being established in other cities -
Tsar abdicates
Tsar signs abdication document, for himself and his son. Initially attempted to pass the throne to his brother, but he refused. Thus ending the 304 years of Romanov rule.
Duma established the provisional government
