Protests start in Petrograd
International Women's Day sparks protests in Petrograd that soon sparked the start of the February Revolution. The February Revolution was the final nail in the coffin for the Monarchy as Nicholas II would be forced to abdicate his place as Czar giving power to the Provisional Government. Nicholas II and his family were later murdered in the house they were held prisoners in, because the Bolsheviks did not want him to be captured and used as a figure head for the anti-revolutionary efforts. -

Death of Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Lenin died on January 21 1924 of an incurable blood disease, his death had many consequences. Even though before his death he openly detested Joseph Stalin being his successor it proved to be too little too late because Stalin had already established his influence in the Soviet Union and beaten the more obvious candidate in Leon Trotsky. After Stalin had gained power Trotsky was exiled from the USSR and eventually assassinated in 1940.
