After the reign of Nicholas II becoming czar, a new form of socialism had become popular among revolutionaries. Karl Marx came up with Marxism which was based on the socialism. He thought that not peasants, but factory workers would lead the socialist revolution.

Each were a party led by different people. Mensheviks favoured a large democratic party. Bolsheviks were hardline revolutionaries that had no time for democracy.

There were conflict over Korea and Manchuria with Japan. This caused to lead the Russo-Japanese War which resulted in a defeat for Russia. This also casued economic hardships at home.

Outside of Winters Palace was protesters against the government and soldiers. Soldiers killed nearly everyone of the protesters. This left the name of Bloody Sunday

Bloody Sunday was the spark to The 1905 Russian Revolution. In the cities, there werer strikes and riots. In the countryside, peasants were burning down homes of land owners, then Nicholas II wanted to end it by creating an assembly called the Duma.

Russia become involved in WWI becuase it was allies with Great Britain and France. Russia had a huge effect from the war because industries couldn't produce enough war supplies.With also hardly any weapons for soldiers to use, becuase of transportation, people back in the cities blamed the czar.

Russia's cities had alot of food shortages so people protested. The government sent troops to stop the riots and strikes. Although, some soldiers joined the crowds.

Following the events of the March Revolution, the news spread quickly. Demonstrators overthrew czarist officials. Then a week later, czar Nicholas gave up the throne.

Leaders of the Duma set up the Provisional Government. Alexander Kerensky took over the Provisional Government and this government was to give people freedom of speech and religon. This now gave Russia to have official written laws

Lenin wanted to increase his power over Soviets. He and all bolsheviks marched down and took over. Bolsheviks arrested members of the Provisional Government and promised peasants they could keep their land and they would make immidate peace with Germany.

Leon Trotsky set up the Red Army which was a communist army. The communists were well organized and took anything to build the army. They took over factories, farms, and businesses.

The czar Nicholas II was shot with the rest of his family. He had 5 children and a wife that all died with him.

Lenin created the NEP which would allow the peasants to keep their grains and not have the government take them. He still planned to set up a commkunist state but he died later that year. Joseph Stalin tried to achieve that same goal.
