During this time, the Emancipation Manifesto was released stating that each Serf had the right to leave the land, but as a result lose the benfits of living on the landlords property. -
Nicholas II, becomes Czar of Russia
This is the time when Czar Nicholas II takes control of Russia. He inherited this power and wealth from his father (Czar Nicholas) and began to implement policies that people did not agree with, and brings Russia into war. Such as WWI, and the Russo-Japanese war. -

Czar Nicholas II sent the Russian military into Japanese territory to ensure that the Russians had a warm water harbor for importing and exporting goods. As a result the Japanese military slaughtered the Russains who attempted to take this land. Czar Nicholas II got criticized for his attempt to take the land because many Russian men were lost in the conflict. -

The war to end them all, as it was refered to but we later learn that this is not the case. Russians were dragged into this conflict by Czar Nicholas II. Russia contributed to fighting the Central Powers, this was do greatly to Russias paranoia of Germany invading Russia in the near future. -

It is during this point in Russian history in which Russian society is drastically changed by force of the people, and the new governments that are taking form. The Russain Revolution happened because the Russian people were very angry at the Czar for dragging them into the Russo/Japanese war, and WWI. -

At this time Czar Nicholas II was exiled to switzerland, so Lenin, and his Bolsheviks decided to take over the Winter Palace to help expand their power and influence over the Russian people. -

Joseph Stalin is brought into power in the Soviet Union
Joseph Stalin, arguably one of the worst rulers in Russian history, took power on April 3rd 1922. Since this date (until 1952) Joseph plunged Russia into chaos through sending millions to Gulags in Siberia to work or be killed. He also was very opressive in general to the people of Russia, and was gernally disliked. Though he was very disliked, people feared speaking against him for they may be killed or sent to Gulags for doing such things.
