    Japan won against Russia in the war because of its superior navy forces and was the first Asian power to defeat a European power. This was yet another thing Russia had to deal with during this horrible time.

    The Revolution of 1905 or "Bloody Sunday" was a massacre of peaceful demonstrators. This also marked the beginning of the violent age in Russia.

    Russia entering WWI escalated things very quickly because as russia entered to defend Serbia, Germany entered to defend Austria-Hungary and set off the entire war.

    This war overthrew the imperial government. This was yet another step in the Russian peoples way of overcoming the horrible conditions they'd been in for years.

  • Lenin Returns to Russia

    Lenin returning to Russia was important because it started the Russian revolution. Because of the Russian revolution, Communism then became the main ideology in Russia

  • Civil War between Red and White Armies

    The war was fought mainly between the Reds led by the Bolsheviks, and the Whites a politically-diverse coalition of anti-Bolsheviks.

  • Treaty of Brest-Litovsk ends Russia’s involvement in WWI

    Russia being out of WWI meant that Germany could now focus all its forces on fighting against France and the United Kingdom. Now Russia could focus on dealing with Stalin as the dictator and eventually return Russia to the country it once was.

  • Bolshevik Revolution defeats Tsar Nicholas' monarchy government

    Bolshevik defeating Tsar's monarchy government cemented Communism as the main form of government in Russia.

  • Czar Nicholas abdicates the throne

    Czar Nicholas was forced to abdicate the throne because of the threat of him getting assassinated. Him and his family were held in a cabin in the woods and eventually killed.

  • Lenin establishes New Economic Policy (NEP)

    The Bolshevik government adopted the NEP in the course of the 10th Congress of the All-Russian Communist Party.

  • Stalin becomes Dictator

    Stalin killed many people in his brutal reign of Russia which was now referred to as the Soviet Union.
