Reign of Czar Alexander III
Czar Alexander was the emperor of Russia from 1881 to 1894. He instituted autocratic rule. He hated Jews and restricted where they could live and what they could do for a living. It set stage for Russians being unhappy w/czar. -
The Reign of Czar Nicholas II
He was the last emperor of Russia. He handled Bloody Sunday and Russia's role in WWI let him to be abdicated. A provincial government is installed in his place. -
Russo-Japanese War
The Russo-Japanese War was fought from Feb 8, 1904 to Sep 5, 1905 between the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan. This led to the Russian Revolution. People blamed the czar to change Russia's government into a constitutional monarchy. -
Bloody Sunday
More than 3,000 people marched towards the Winter Palace to Czar Nicholas II to show him that there should be a reform. The Russian people had an uprising and the people believed less in the government. This is why he created the Duma and caused the Russian Revolution. -
Establishment of the Duma
As a result of the 1905 revolution, the Duma was established by Tsar Nicholas II when the government was desperate to divide the opposition during an uprising. This follows the Russo-Japanese War and Bloody Sunday to improve the Czar's reputation -
Death of Rasputin
He was murdered on Dec. 30. Czar was blamed for leaving government in hands of Alexandra and Rasputin. -
Bolshevik Revolution
The peasants and working class revolted against the government of Czar Nicholas II. This was led by Vladimir Lenin and a group called the Bolsheviks. The new communist government created the country of the Soviet Union. -
Abdication of Czar Nicholas
Czar Nicholas ll was forced to abdicate by the Petrograd insurgents, and a provincial government is installed in his place. -
Civil War
The Russian Civil War was a civil war fought from November 1917 until October 1922. After this war, the communists established the Soviet Union in 1922. -
Russia's Participation in WWI
The Soviet government signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk on March 3, 1918 which ended the dispute between Germany and Russia. Around 900,000 to 2,500,000 Russians were killed. The Russian people blamed the Czar. -
Establishment of USSR
The Soviet Union (USSR) was a single-party Marxist–Leninist state. It was the first country to declare itself socialist and build towards a communist society. This established Communist rule. -
Lenin's Death
Lenin dies in 1924 from complications of a stroke. His absence let Joseph Stalin, the Communist Party's new General Secretary, to begin gain power. -
Stalin's Rise to Power
He manipulates his way into power despite Lenin's concern. He is in total command of Communist Party. Additionally, he has Trotsky exiled in 1929. He later becomes a dictator of the Soviet Union. -
Leon Trotsky's Exile
Trotsky was banished from the USSR forever by Stalin. Communist Leon Trotsky helped ignite the Russian Revolution of 1917, and built the Red Army afterward. He was exiled and later assassinated by Soviet agents.
