    Reign of Czar Alexander III
    Alexander III contributed to the Anti-Semitic sentiment (the persecution against Jews, which was done to strengthen Russia), by blaming the Jews for his father's assassination. He promoted violence against Jews and the nobility's interests and had three goals, autocracy, orthodoxy, and national homogenity. Set foundation for people not liking the Czar.

    Reign of Czar Nicholas II
    Created the Duma, a legislature, so that people would like him. He abdicated the throne which led to a provisional government, and later was overthrown. He's the one in power when Russians revolt

    Russo-Japanese War
    Russia and Japan were arguing over land in northern China, which caused tension to grow in these nations and lead to war. Russia lost the land in China and became a constitutional monarchy.

    Bloody Sunday
    Workers marched on the Winter Palace to improve living and working conditions. Allowed protesters (workers) to become more angry since they wanted a peaceful march, but the police open fired. Led the them to hate the government/Czar more.

    Russia joins WWI to help Serbia, When they join, Germany does too. Russia was not industrialized so they lost to Germany and its allies and drop out of the war early. They blame Czar Nicholas II

    Exorcist, mystic, and healer. Had close ties with royal family because the Czar's son had a blood problem and he was able to help. The nobility tried to kill him many times. Contributed to Czar Nicholas' bad reputation.

    Czar Steps Down/ Provisional Government Establishment
    After Czar Nicholas abdicated the throne, a temporary Provisional government was established. He stepped down mostly because the people were unhappy with him and blamed him for the military failures. The provisional government was unpopular because it refused to end the involvement in the war, or to promote reforms. It was overthrown in the Bolshevik Revolution.

    Bolshevik Revolution
    When the Bolsheviks, also known as The Red Army, overthrew the Provisional government. The revolution was led by Leon Trotsky, who was later exiled.

    Civil War
    War fought between Red Army (Bolsheviks) vs White Army (conservatives/allies). Contributed to the establishment of the USSR, or Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (Soviet Union). It lasted until 1991 and was a self-governing republic declaring nationalism. The Communist party held all the power. Won by The Red Army, destroyed the country and people were starved.

    The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Self-governing republics that discourage nationalism. The Communist Party holds all the power, and the Soviet Union lasted until 1991

    Manipulated his way to power despite Lenin's concerns. He was in total command of the Communist Party by 1928. He had Trotsky exiled in 1929 to later be killed. He would later become dictator of the Soviet Union.

    After he died in 1924, competition was set up over his replacement. Despite Lenin's worries, Stalin rose to power through manipulation.

    Leon Trotsky's Exile
    Leon Trotsky was exiled in 1929 by Joseph Stalin, and was later killed after Stalin gained power back in 1922. He was able to do this because by 1928, Stalin had total command of the Communist Party.
