Emancipation of the Serfs
-Tsar Alexander emacnipated all serfs in Russia
- They were allowed to keep their homes and tools.
- Had to buy land at high prices so most former serfs were in huge debt. -
Bloody Sunday
- Started out as a peacful march of workers to St. Petersburg. -Russian soldiers fired upon the marchers as they neared the Tsars palace. -More than 100 marchers were dead and hundreds more were severely wounded.

- Governemnt soldiers refused to fire on protesters, sometimes even joined them.
-Lead to tsar Nicholas II to abdicate the throne. -

- Lead by Lenin who was a soviet -Armed bulsheviks seized power from the provisional government -Ended war with Germany in 1918 under soviet rule
- Set up the bolshevik dictatorship to rule Russia

Murder of the Romanovs
- The entire Russian royal family was murdered by Bolsheviks -This was to eliminate any supporters of royal rule in Russia.
- The missing bodies of the youngest children caused many mysteries until there recent discovery.

- Peace treaty signed to end WWI -divided germany up, with a russian ruled quarter.
- Gave russia back all the land it lost but these lands were also renamed Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.

- After suffering two strokes, Lenin knew his time was almost up
- Lenin warned the communist party about Stalin being intolerant, unloyal, and impolite. -Stalin still became the leader of the Soviet Union and created a totalitarian state.
