The Revolution Of 1905
Tsarists troops open fired on a group on a protesters who were asking the Tsar for help, this is because the populace was extremely dissatisfied with the Tsarist regime and wanted reforms. It then resulted in the October Manifesto and lead to the creation of the Duma. -
The March Revolution
The Tsar was forced to abide after his troops proved that they could no longer defined his regime, this was because the Cossacks' had turned against Tsar. Following this revolution, the Provisional Government was soon declared and this also marked the end of the Romanov rule of Russia. -
The Provisional Government
The Soviet and the Duma declared the Provisional Government, which promised a constituent assembly and the legalization of strikes. This was because the leaders wanted a legitimate democratic government to replace the Tsar, and although it was a step in the right direction for some, the government itself failed to address the poor condition of Russia. -
The Bolshevik Revolution
The Bolsheviks gained control of the Petrograd and then Moscow, they then seized control of Russia. This established the first communist government and Lenin was now in power. -
War Communism
Industry was nationalized, private trade was suppressed, and compulsory labour was introduced, this was because of the desperate need to obtain food for the red army . Russia wanted to get out of an agricultural based economy and move to a communist economy. -
The Russian Civil War
The Reds fought against the Whites, this is because the whites had risen to challenge the Communist control of Russia. After several years, the Red army was victorious and Communism was further established. -
Lenin's New Economic Policy
Lenin's New Economic Policy was designed to introduce a small measure of capitalism and in the end there were some improvements in regard to production. During this time Lenin exhibited flexibility and some private trade was permitted. -
Treaty Of Rapallo
It was a treaty signed between Russia and Germany in April of 1922, by which the two countries established "diplomatic relations." Russia obtained German steel as well as technical help, and a secret part of the Treaty had allowed Germany to manufacture arms in Russian factories. -
Five Year Plans
Introduced in the year of 1928, the Five Year Plans were made by the government with the intention of creating a command economy in the Soviet Union. There were a total of three plans and they mainly focused on industrialization and the collectivisation of farms. -
Show Trials
These trials took place during Stalin's purges, 1934-1938. Many of the old leaders and senior army officers were publicly tried and forced to admit to being guilty of treason.
