Ivan III, was a prince and rejected the Mongols. He declared independence and got the name "Ivan the Great" -

IVAN IV AS CZAR
Ivan IV declared himself emperor and ruled harshley. He got the name "Ivan the Terrible." He expanded his empire to the caspian sea and past the Ural Mountains. -

The expansion of Russia continued under the rule of Peter and Catherine the Great. They wanted to have warm water for trade and to be closer to Europe, so they extended Russia. -

Peter the Great wanted to build a new capital, so he did. He built St. Petersburg, close to Europe. -
THE INVASION OF THE FRENCH
The French wanted to take over Russia, but first they had to take over Moscow. While the French were marching hundreds of miles the Russian's burnt everything the French could use, even Moscow. They did this and the French suffered badly from lack of supplies and shelters. -
RUSSIA JOINS WORLD WAR 1
The Russian's joined world War 1, but since they were not prepared they suffered badly. -
THE RUSSIAN REVELOTION
The Russian's formed a revelotion, which forced the Czar to step down from the throne. -
KIEVAN RUS ACCEPTS CHRISTIANITY
Kievan Rus accepted Christianity when the missionaries came. They converted to Eastern Orthodox Christianity. -
