Charlie comes homes and sees a gramophone, and the redmonds give it to him for a few nights, to help him with his footwork -

Mr Redmond finds out that Charlie is running for Squizzy Taylor, so comes up with him entering the Ballarat mile. He also offers to help him prepare -

Charlie brings the gramophone in and puts a record on, and decides to dance with his mother. He isn't the best, but his mother is still laughing -
Nostrils is in hospital -pg 145-155
Charlie and nostrils take a shortcut through a park to get home, and they see Barlow, Charlie was told to run, but nostrils gets hit in the knee by arrow, and can't run or play footy. Charlie goes back, and takes him to hospital. -
Charlie wins the Ballarat mile
Charlie runs without shoes on, and somehow wins. He won a lot of money, and bought a wood yard for him and nostrils, which was a recent idea. He also stops running for Squizzy Taylor -

Charlie comes home and hears mr peacock and his mother fighting, and Mrs Feehan is hurt. Charlie steps in and hits him with a bat, and Knicks him out. Later on he finds out that mr peacock lost his memory of hitting her
