Ronald Reagan holds his first negotiations with the Soviets in 1982; differently from previous discussions, he aimed to reduce the actual amount of nuclear arms both sides possessed, rather than limiting their growth. -
Reagan Boom
The US economy experienced a sudden economic boom around the 1980's. During this time the gross national average rose from 3.6% to 6.8%. Unemployment rates fell to 7.4% and inflation was slowing down. The stock marked also experienced a big "boom" with the Dow Jones rising 33% during Reagan's first term. -
Iran Arms Sales
Reagan, in an attempt to free American prisoners and indirectly combat Soviet forces, permitted the dealing of American weaponry from Israel to Iran in exchange for prisoners, doing so secretly. Along the way, weapons inteded to resupply Israel were diverted to Nicaraguan rebel forces. This was met with backlash from the public. On top of this, more Americans kept being captured to replace the ones that were freed. -

Tax Reform Act of 1986
The Tax Reform Act of 1986 was proposed to simplify the tax code. It lowered the top tax rate from 50% to 28% and raised the bottom tax rate from 11% to 15%. This was considered to be second out of two of Regans tax cuts. -
Moscow Summit
Ronald Reagan met with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in the Soviet Union, being an unprecedented event for the President of the US to do. In the meeting, the two powers discussed major actions and future events such as removing troops from Afghanistan and removing nuclear weapon locations. They also signed agreements on smaller issues such as student exchanges. -
