Sunday Morning
A brawl breaks out between the Montagues and Capulets. The Prince stops the fight and threatens to kill them if they fight for a third time. He arranges meetings with the heads of both houses. -
Sunday Afternoon
Lord Montague and his wife worry about their son, Romeo, who has been depressed and isolated. They ask Benvolio, their nephew, to find out why he is so sad. Romeo talks about his unrequited love for Rosaline. Benvolio promises that there are other girls for him and vows to cheer him up. Lord Capulet promises his daughter to County Paris. A messenger sent by the Capulets is sent to give out invitations. Romeo helps him read the names on the list. -
Sunday Evening
Romeo, Mercutio, and Benvolio arrive at the feast in disguise. Romeo admires the beauty of a young girl forgetting all about Rosaline, and declaring that he had never been in love until now. Tybalt hears Romeo talking but Capulet prevents him from disturbing the peace, claiming that Romeo should be left alone. Romeo approaches Juliet and takes her hand, and he kisses her several times. Romeo secretly visits Juliet at her home. Romeo reveals himself and they both decide to marry the next day. -

The Story of Romeo and Juliet

Monday Evening
Romeo learns of his banishment from Friar Lawrence, and the Nurse brings Romeo to see Juliet. Lord Capulet decides to get Juliet to marry Paris on the upcoming Thursday. Juliet objects to the arrangement, but is silenced by her father’s threat to throw her onto the streets. Unsure of what to do, she decides to go to Friar Lawrence for help. If nothing can be done, she is willing to kill herself. -
Monday Morning
Romeo visits Friar Lawrence, asking him to marry Romeo with Juliet. Lawrence is not certain about the marriage but agrees to unite the two families. Mercutio and Benvolio receive a letter for a duel between Tybalt and Romeo. Thinking the best for his friend, Mercutio decides to take it for him. The Nurse goes to find Romeo to warn him not to lead Juliet the wrong way and to not treat her badly. -
Monday Afternoon
The Nurse returns to Juliet, who was waiting for her to come back after many hours. She tells Juliet to go to the Friar’s cell to get married. They get married but meanwhile, Benvolio, Mercutio, and Romeo face Tybalt. He decides to challenge Romeo to a duel, but instead, Mercutio recklessly challenges and fights in Romeo’s place. Tybalt kills Mercutio, so, as revenge, Romeo kills Tybalt. Prince Escalus hears of the tragic news, and decides to banish Romeo from Verona as a punishment. -
Tuesday Evening
Juliet drinks the potion after debating whether or not she should and falls into a deep sleep. -
Tuesday Afternoon
Juliet returns home finding her parents preparing for the wedding. She apologizes for her disobedience and agrees to marry Paris to their delight. Capulet is overjoyed and changes the date of the wedding to Wednesday instead. -
Tuesday Morning
Juliet goes to the church to talk to Friar Lawrence. He comes up with a plan to reunite Romeo and Juliet. He gives Juliet a potion that will put her in a deep sleep making her appear dead the morning of her wedding day. The Capulets, think that she’s dead, will lay her to rest in the Capulet tomb. She will then wake up and Romeo will retrieve her, taking her back to Mantua with him. -
Wednesday Morning
Nurse discovers Juliet’s body and tells the Capulets. Everyone weeps in sorrow for their dear Juliet. Friar Lawrence comforts them and asks that funeral plans begin immediately. -
Wednesday Afternoon
Juliet has her funeral. Balthasar discovers that his master’s wife is dead and returns to Mantua to tell Romeo. -
Thursday Afternoon
Romeo gets word from his servingman, Balthasar, that Juliet is dead. He buys poison from a local apothecary and rides to Verona to be with his love in death. Friar Lawrence finds out Friar John, the messenger who was to relay the plan to Romeo, has failed to do so. Fearing the worst, Friar Lawrence goes to Juliet’s tomb. -
Thursday Evening
Romeo arrives at the Capulet’s tomb. He thanks Balthasar for helping but threatens to kill him if he waits for him to come back. Paris finds Romeo near Juliet’s grave and challenges him to duel. Romeo kills Paris. After kissing Juliet one last time, Romeo drinks the potion and dies. Juliet wakes to find him dead and Friar Lawrence begs her to leave the tomb, but to no avail. He runs away, fearing the guards and the tomb itself. Juliet stabs herself with Romeo’s dagger. -
Friday Morning
Lord Montague, Lord and Lady Capulet, and the Prince arrive at the scene. Friar Lawrence explains everything; from their wedding to their suicides. The families end their feud.
