First Punic War
What : First of three wars fought between Carthage nd Rome. The Roman's came into Siciliy to conquer Carthage. Although the Romans at first looked like they might lose, in the end they won.
When : Between 264 BC & 241 BC
How : Basically, after this war the relationship between Carthage and Rome was more strained than before. This was mostly because Rome forced Carthage to pay a lot of money for the war. -
Mercenary War a.k.a. Libyan War
What : The Mercenaries began to turn on Carthage and join forces with Libya, because of the disputes with Rome. These mercenaries went to an island called Sardinia. When the war looked like it was in Carthage's favor, they appealed to Rome. Rome, still wanting Carthage to pay for the war, denied the appeal and instead annex Sardinia.
When: 240 BC - 238 BC
How: Rome annexed itself from Sardinia, so ir controlled less land. -
Second Punic War
What: Carthage went to Spain, to get money to pay back Rome from the first punic war. Rome also went to Spain, in the north. Carthage,or Hannibal decided to attack Rome by means of elephants.
When: 218 BC to 201 BC
How: At the end of this war Rome told Carthage that they could not fight anymore unless Rome said they could. In addition to new power over Carthage, Rome also gained more land in Spain. -
Third Punic War
What: A lot of Roman men needed jobs, so Rome decided to attack Greece for helping Carthage out during the second punic war. While that was happening, the Romans who had stayed in Carthage were causing trouble with the Carthaginians. The Carthaginians decided to fight back, and this caused Rome to march into Carthage and destroy the city.
When: 149 BC to 146 BC
How: The relationship was gone because Rome destroyed Carthage. -
Roman Carthage
What: Utica was made the capital of previous Carthage. In 122 BC, aius Gracchus established the colony Colonia Iunonia, to help farmers. After the colony was abolishes, Julius Caesar came in and developed the previous Carthage into the second largest Roman empire.
When: 122 BC
How: Since Carthage was gone, Rome developed the land into massive empires and made this land known for something. It is said to be the first known site of Christianity. -
