The Plebeians Gain Political Equality
The Patricians had no protection against enemies of Rome, so they agreed to allow the plebeians to participate in some parts of their Republic. Plebeians were happy they were part of the government, but sooner or later they would demand full equality.The Plebeians created The Tribunes of the Plebs and the Council of Plebs. Etruscan rule
When the Etruscans ruled Rome, the polis was split up into two groups, Patricians and Plebeians. Plebeians made up 95 percent of Rome's population and Patricians made up 5 percent of Rome's population. Neither groups had any power in the government. -
The Patricians Create a Republic
In 509 B.C.E. the Patricians vanquished the last Etruscan king, then created the Republic. The power was kept by the Patrician Senate and the consuls. Patricians excluded the Plebeians from joining their new government. -
The Plebeians Rebel!
The Plebeians started to order more rights from the government, causing the Patricians to fight with the Plebeians. This was known as the Conflict of Orders. In 449 B.C.E. the Patricians ignored the Plebeians requests, which angered the Plebeians even more. Ignored and angered, the Plebeians started a rebellion. -
The Plebeians Gain full Political Equality
By 287 B.C.E. Plebeians and Patricians share the government equally with one another.
