Beginning of the Punic Wars between Rome and Carthage for the control of Sicily and the sea routes of the Mediterranean (264 BCE).
The first Punic Wars of the Roman Republic and Carthage occurred in the western Mediterranean Sea, primarily on the Mediterranean island of Sicily (to a lesser extend, North Africa). This is important because as a reward, Rome was able to take over Carthage's long established trade routes, which really enriched the Roman Republic. Also, the Punic Wars were very important to Rome because after their victory, it gave Rome it's first overseas conquests, so it helped them begin their Roman Empire. -

Odoacer, the Germanic leader, defeats Rome and the Western Roman Empire ends (476 AD).
Odoacer was born into a Germanic tribe and eventually became the first barbarian King of Italy. This was important because when he had overthrown Augustus Caesar (Western Empire), it was said that he had basically ended that Empire forever. Though he still ended up being the first barbarian to rule the Roman Empire, they didn't count him as being a leader so, once he passed, Rome slowly turned into what we know now. -

Romulus and Remus found the city of Rome, according to legend (753 BCE).
Romulus and Remus were twin brothers who were part of a legend that said they found Rome. It all started with them not agreeing on where to make their new city so, they quarreled over it and Remus died. Romulus then named his city Rome, after his name. This is important because it has been a big part of Roman culture and beliefs. It has been believed all along by many people that Romulus and Remus had found Rome and there has been tons of theories to weather the twins were actually real or not. -
Approximate date of the birth of Jesus Christ (3 BCE).
The event of Jesus' birth from Mary and Joseph occurred in Bethlehem, Judea. This was a very important event because really, to sum it all up, his life was an extremely big topic in history. The stories he taught to people and the lessons he gave were made into different religions we have used over the years- Example: Christianity, Roman Catholic, etc. -
Julius Caesar is assasinated on the Ides of March at the Theater of Pompey (44 BCE).
Not that Caesars death was a good thing however, it was a step to further depveloing Rome. I think this because it said that when Caesar died, his adopted son Augustus Caesar was the heir to his throne. He won the civil war which made him the sole ruler of the Roman Empire, he transformed the Republlic into the Principate ("Roma Empire"), began the 200 year Pax Romana, etc. He was important because he made Rome so beautiful that his era (the Augustan era) was called the Golden Age of Rome. -
Julius Caesar and two other powerful generals take control of the Roman government (60 BCE).
Julius Caesar's influence on Rome was huge and not only was he a great ruler but his adopted son, Augustus Caesar, was said to be the best leader in Rome's history. Julius Caesar was important because with out him the world would not be what it is today. This isn't well known but he actually was the one to come up with the 365-day calendar. Other than that the most important thing was that he played a crucial role in the events that ended the Republic, and the rise of the Roman Empire. -
Christianity is declared the official religion of the Roman Empire (by Emperor Constantine) (391 AD).
This was a very important thing to happen in Rome because of many reasons. The most general one is that Christianity is the most widely practiced religion in the world with about 1.6 billion people (or slightly less than a quarter of the people in the world) that follow this religion. Though Christianity and Roman Catholic are not exactly the same thing, it was a religion made back in Rome and is the second most practiced in the world. -
The Roman Empire is officially split into the Western Roman Empire (capital Rome) and the Eastern or Byzantine Roman Empire (capital Constantinople) (395 AD).
This was an important thing to happen because it made Rome stronger. With two empires they were able to provide double the things they needed so that's what made Rome more powerful. Now, the two empires alone were not very strong but together they were. That's why the Western and Eastern Empire were eventually defeated, but afterwards Rome as a whole still remained because of how much power they still had from what the two empires contributed.
