Valentinian dies and Gratian becomes emperor. Gratian is the first emperor to refuse the title of Pontifex Maximus. -
476 AD: Collapse of Rome
End of the Western Roman Empire. The Roman government ceases to exist, their next ruler is King Odoacer. After constant invasions and usurpations, Roman system collapses permanently.
