Boogie-woogie was a form of piano blues whose main characteristic is a left hand repeated pattern that imitates blues guitar. -
Gospel
Gospel is a highly emotional vocal genre that branched from spirituals and was a great influence to rhythm and blues. Thomas A. Dorsey was often called the "Father of Gospel Music". -

The music of individual expression whos main characterisics are improvisation and swing rhythm. Duke Ellington started a jazz band that led to the start of Count Basie. -

The Swing era was when nig band jazz or swing music became the cominant form of pop music. This was the first type of music that people could dance to. -

The Acappella group vocal style that incorporates high falsetto vocal leads, scat singing, rhythmic vocal backings and sometimes lead vocals or spoken verse by the bass singer. -

Benny Goodman was the first star of the swing era. His rise to fame started in Los Angeles when hundereds of teens showed up to hear and dance to his radio show called Let's Dance. -

Cowboy music is in movies. It originated in the west. Usually played on an acoustic guitar, electric guitar, banjo, and violin. -
Urban Blues
Urban Blues was the first type of music to be electric. Muddy Waters was the most famous singer of Urban Blues. He sang "Got My Mojo Working" and "Rollin' Stone". -

The electrical process was the recording process in which microphones are used to convert sound waves into an electrical signal. This was very helpful to the musicians in the 40s because they could now record and sell music easier. -

The style of jazz that branched from Harlem. That made the big band music happen. The Swing Era was in favor of a more jazz type of group. -
Rhythm and Blues
Rhythm and Blues was an evolution of the blues that was more dance and commercially oriented. R&B bands often included electric instruments such as guitars, bass guitars, and organs, vocalists and a horn section, often with a honking tenor saxaphone soloists. -
Rock n' Roll
Originated in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Evolved from music styles such as gospel, blues, boogie-woogie, rhythm and blues, and country. It includes male vocals, electric guitars, drums, piano, saxophones, and many more musical instruments. This genre of music changed music forever. -
