Robespierre's Reign

  • The Jacobins are formed and Robespierre is one of the leaders.

    This was a radical group of revolutionaries that spoke out in political events. Robespierre and Jean-Paul Marat were some of the main leaders of the group. They represented the group in the national convention and the public newspapers.
  • Robespierre assumes control of France.

    Once the monarchy has been destroyed Robespierre takes control and creates a cult called the Supreme Being. It was make the state religion of France.
  • Robespeirre brought on the Great terror.

    He believed that the only way to get rid the loyalist was to scare them off for good. This included executing people using the guillotine. Many common people were killed just because of spies listening to the people complaining about the leaders. They had quick trials for them, and they were paraded through the streets of France.
  • Robespierre become leader of the Committee of public safety.

    This was a group of men to protect the revolutionaries from the enemies. They were the people who decided who the enemies were. Robespierre justified the terror he brought by saying that it was the only way of keeping the vision of the revolution pure. Most of the "enemies" were fellow revolutionaries who just didn't agree with his views, so they were executed.
  • Robespierre is executed through the gullitine.

    Most of the members feared for their lives and they saw that Robespierre was corrupt. They arrested and executed him without trial. That was the end of the Great Terror and the radical group of the revolution.
