Antietam
Held on September 17, 1862. This battle still holds the place of bloodiest event in America, with 23,000 dead. The North was surrounding the South until they retreated back to Virginia. This took a lot of soldiers from both sides, but it mostly hurt the South. -
Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg started in December 11-15, 1862. The area had a wall that separated them which both sides used. The USA didn't have good generals and lead to the South winning. Richard Cerkland a Southern soldier at night had crossed the wall to give all the dying soldiers water. This act gave him the nickname angle of May's heights. This was significant to the war because it showed how hard it was during war. -
Vicksburg
Held on May 22-July 3, 1863. The North won using the anaconda plan. There were 10,142 deaths from the North, and 9,091 deaths from the South. This battle lead to the emancipation proclamation.
