1864/ He discovered that different microbes caused different kinds of spoiling. He found out that heat can kill many of these microbes. in 1865/ He found out that germs could cause infectious diseases and were spread by people. This idea was based on the germ theory of disease. -
Robert Koch
1876/ He developed a way to prove that a disease was killing cattle. To prove that this disease was killing cattle he had to take the disease and inject it into mice and the other two mice he did not inject. the two mice that he injected died and the other two lived. -
Joseph Lister
1876/ he began to clean his surgical instruments and he also spread the air with cleaning stuff, made sure they washed their hands, and wash their aprons. Because he made this change there was a 15% drop to death rate for surgery. -
William Stewart Halsted
1890/ He wanted to stop the spread of these germs that are killing patients. So he wanted to stop them from spreading in the first place so he used rubber gloves. To keep the gloves clean he would use chemicals to clean them.
