  • Sugar act

    Overview- a law passed to try and stop the illegal smuggling of sugar among the colonists. It also decreased the taxes of molasses
    Significance- the colonists felt like their rights as English citizens were being violated. It was the first-ever tax on the colonists.
  • Stamp Act

    Overview- they were required to pay taxes on all the paper made and printed. This was a consequence of the French and Indian War. All legal documents had to have an official stamp. They brought tax but they weren't even allowed to take part in political decisions
    Significance- this tax was a way for the colonists to help pay for the French and Indian war.
  • Townsend Act

    Overview- it was a new set of laws and taxes passed by the British parliament. They slowly started to take away the colonists freedom and a little of their rights. For example, gave new taxes on paper paint lead glass and tea
    Significance- the British wanted the colonists to pay for themselves. It was to pay for the salaries of officials of the governors and judges. This angered the colonist
  • Boston Massacre

    overview- it was a street fight and the colonists began to throw snowball stones and sticks at the British soldiers. the soldiers opened fire on the colonist killing many of them
    significance- it help the colonists unite and come together as one. it was the first conflict with the British soldiers that resulted in some deaths. it made the colonists’ anger between both groups grow. it made the colonists fight harder
  • The Coercive Acts

    Overview- as series of laws that restricted the colonist from trade. It also increased the British control in Massachusetts. It was to scare the colonist and to install fear in the colonist. It brought the colonist together.
    Significance- the British believed that this would scare the colonist. In reality, it brought the colonist together as one. It made the colonist extremely angry.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Overview- a protest ran by the American colonists where they attacked the three ships with tea and knocked the tea cargo into the harbor.
    Significance- because it showed the British how far the colonists would go to show Britain they wanted their freedom. This was the key point to the start of the revolution. This was the start of the violence against their own government
  • Declaration of independence

    overview-A statement written by the founding fathers of the United States. Declaring their freedom of the colonies from Britain. It was adopted by the Second Continental Congress
    Significance- it united the colonist as one. They were determined to get their independence from Britain. The British were angry that the colonist wanted to depart from them
