Road to the Revolution

  • French and Indian War (1754-1761)

    French and Indian War (1754-1761)
War between France, Indians, the colonies, and the British. They fought mainly over land and transportation routes, Beaver pelts played a big part in the war. For most of the war France had control but it wasn't until Britain increase their war funds that the pace of the war changed into Britain favor. This increase in funds ultimately left a huge dept the British were in that they force the colonists to pay. This was really the beginning of the Revolutionary War
  • Sugar Act (1765-1766)

    Sugar Act (1765-1766)
An act in which after the 7 year war the colonist were taxed Sugar, Molasses, Rum. (anything with sugar in it) The colonists to much of nobody's surprise were not happy. So in order to stop it they banded together and decided to stop buying sugar products altogether. That way the British would be forced to repeal the act.
  • Stamp Act (1765-1766)

    Stamp Act (1765-1766)
The stamp act was a direct tax on all of the colonies printed goods, newspaper, playing cards, and other types of paper. Like most of these acts the colonist didn't like this act. They though it was a violation of our rights to be taxed without their consent.
  • Townshend Act (1767)

    Townshend Act (1767)
Taxed colonist on imported British goods,(Tea, Glass, and Paint). The British aslo put a monopoly on these goods so you could only buy these good from only one company at an overly expensive price. You could see how bad this was today as if someone told you you could only eat McDonald and nothing else and there was nothing they could do about it.
  • Boston Massacre (1770)

    Boston Massacre (1770)
The Boston Massacre is more a less a he said/she said historical event where the full story is more or less unclear on who caused it and if was justified. The historical significance to the revolution the Boston massacre is pretty large considering the tension between the colonists and the British was high enough as it was.
  • Boston Tea Party (1773)

    Boston Tea Party (1773)
This was the colonist was of protesting the tea act set by the British.Sam Adams and other colonist dressed as Mohawk Indians and dumped 300+ crates of tea into the Boston harbor. This act of "protesting" later backfired with the introduction of the intolerable acts.
  • Intolerable Acts (1774)

    Intolerable Acts (1774)
A set of acts put together that pushed upon the colonist post Boston Tea Party. In these acts included the quartering act which allowed British solders to take shelter in colonist homes. Along with the quartering act the closed the Boston harbor until the colonist payed for all the Tea they Destroyed. In my opinion this was the last major event pre-revolutionary war.
