  • Treaty of Paris

    This treaty is what ended the French and Indian War. France gave up all their land in North America. This ended the threat of the French for the British colonies.
  • Proclamation Act

    King George III passed this law to prohibit settlers from moving past the Appalachian mountains.
  • The Sugar Act

    It was passed in hope to raise revenue from the colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    The British gained more revenue from the colonies by requiring a stamp on newspapers and other legal documents.
  • The Quartering Act

    This act required colonists to provide British soldiers with places to stay and accommodations.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    It lasted until October 25 and took place in New York City. Representatives from several of the colonies met to plan protest for British taxes.
  • Stamp Act Repealed

    After months of protest Benjamin Franklin wrote an appeal and British parliament voted to repeal the stamp act.
  • Declaratory Act

    This was passed following the repeal of the stamp act. This gave British parliament the same authority in the colonies as in Britain.
  • Townshend Acts

    They were proposed by Charles Townshend. Their purpose was to raise revenue in the colonies in order to pay governors and judges to keep them loyal to Great Britain.
  • Boston Massacre

    Five colonists were killed when a fight broke out in the streets between some colonists and British soldiers.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    They were Patriot governments formed in response to many of the British policies. They worked as source of communication between the 13 colonies.
  • Tea Act

    The British parliament passed this to increase tax on imported tea in the colonies which gave the British East India company a monopoly over tea trade with the colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Members of the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and destroyed an entire shipment of tea from the British East India company.
  • Intolerable Acts

    They were a group of laws passed after the Boston tea party in order to punish the colonists for what they had done.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    Representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies met in Philadelphia.
  • Declaration of Rights and Grievances

    This document was written by the Stamp Act Congress and said that all taxes imposed by British colonists that had not been formerly approved were unconstitutional.
  • Lexington and Concord

    These two battles were the first military engagements of the American Revolution.
  • Bunker Hill

    It was a major battle during the siege of Boston. It was technically a victory for the British, but it made them realize how strong the colonists were.
  • Appeal to Reason Ejected

    It was a petition that hoped for reconciliation between the British and the colonies but King George III refused.
  • Common Sense

    It was written by Thomas Paine and was a pamphlet that encouraged colonists to want to separate from Great Britain.
  • Declaration of Independence

    This is the document that announced the thirteen American colonies to be independent from Britain at the end of the war.
