Road to the Revolution

  • Proclamation Line

    Proclamation Line
After the French and Indian war the King of England set limitations on the area the colonials can expand on. The Proclamation line forbid them from settling past the Ohio river Valley and the Appalachian mountains. This angered the colonials because they had just assisted in the war that earned them that land. I believe this to be the first cause and reason for the colonials rebellion.
  • 1st Quartering Act

    1st Quartering Act
The Quartering Act was brought upon the colonials because the king still needed to repay the money from the war and all other acts had been repealed. This act required that the Americans had to house and feed any British soliders in the colonies. This angered the colonials because not only was it an invasion of their privacy but also a lose of money. Hotels were giving their rooms for free and those who struggled to support their own families then had to take on another mouth to feed.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
The parliament passed the Declaratory Act because the Stamp Act and Townshend Act had been repealed. This act claimed that all laws passed by the British were superior to any passed by the Americans. Meaning the Americans could make their own laws but they wouldn't be recognized in any event. This angered the colonials because they had been living under the law of salutary neglect allowing them to make their own laws and live under their own government. This new act demolished their government.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
This act was passed to prevent the British tea company from going bankrupt. This act prevent colonists from buying tea from any company or place other than the BEI tea company. This angered the colonials especially the merchants because tea was something they drank often and they found the rise in price unnecessary. This eventually lead to the Boston Tea Party.
  • Intolerable (Coercive) Acts

    Intolerable (Coercive) Acts
The Intolerable Acts were 5 different acts. The Boston Port Act, the Mass. Gov't Act, the Justice Act, the 2nd Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act. These acts were intended to isolate Boston from the other colonies and make them dependent on the British. This angered the colonials greatly because they could no longer trade and could only get supplies from the British. This pushed the Sons of Liberty further in motion. And the pushed the colonials to gain more supports from other colonies.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
The British hear of the militia forming all over Mass. and set out to seize their munitions, supplys, and leaders. The colonials spy network notifies the militia of the British coming and they are met with 150 colonists. This results in the "shot heard 'round the world". 8 militia are killed and 11 wounded. This makes the militia plans no longer secretive and cause the colonials to ambush the British multiple times
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
The moderates write this petition to "make peace" with the British and go about their lives like before. The 3 main points are the cease of fire in Boston, King George repeals the Acts, and King George defines the colonial rights but the king sees it as a joke and tries to scare them. This angers the colonials because they are serious about trying to make peace and causes the colonies to bond.
