Missouri compromise
The northern and the southern politicians had heated events over the growth of slavery. The Missouri comprimise were a series of laws that helped maintain the balance between slave and free states. -

Southern states felt that tariffs were unfair ad supported the north . Vice President Calhoun said any state could nullify (make void) if they consider a law unconstitutional. Compromise of 1850
Congress had many heated debates for new Territorie being slave or free states. Henry Clay helped out again made comprimise. California would be free. Congress would not pass laws banning slavery for the new territories. -
Fugitive slave act
The fugitive slave act was passed by 1850 by congress. The act permitted the captured of African Americans who had fled to the north to escape slavery. These laws heightened tension p, and set the stage for John Brown's raid. -
Bleeding Kansas
5000 people from nearby Missouri came and voted for pro slavery representatives in Kansas illegally. Anti slavery started it's wn governments. Anti slavery got attracted by proslavery forces. John brown killed 7 of his pro slavery neighborhors -
Dred Scott decision July 1 1857
Dred Scott sued for his freedom. But the judges declared 7 out of 9 decided that no slave or descended of a slave could be a citizen. He then died free tho. -
Attack on harpers ferry
John brown wanted to inspire slaves to,fight for freedom! Attacked harpers ferry to get weapons. Brown and his men were captured and sent to death tensions rises north and south became separated and mad at each other -
Election of 1860
Abe Lincoln wins the election. Southern states get made and began to secede from the union shortly after Lincoln is elected. The south didn't like him because he disliked slavery, final straw to the war all out war
