French and Indian war
The French and Indian war was fought over land in America against the French in and the British. The British wanted land in the French’s territory and trading rights with the Indians. The British ended up taking all of the French’s territory in North America. The colonists get taxed to pay for the war and are not allowed to settle in the new land. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was when King George said colonists could not go past a line that was bordered close to the close to the Mississippi river but most colonists ignored the rule because they could not enforce it. -
sugar act
This tax was on things like sugar and molasses. It made harsh punishments for smugglers. The colinists boycotted and sent a petition to England -
Quartering Act
This act required colonists to house and feed British troops. However some colonists refused to let soldiers stay. -
Stamp Act
This tax said that colonists had to buy a additional stamp on documents like contracts, wills and newspapers. The colonists demanded the tax to be repealed. -
Townshend Act
The Townshend Act puts a tax on imports like lea ,tea, glass and other things. As a result the colonists smuggled goods into the colonies and reduced the amount of imports. -
Boston Massacre
Boston MassacreA group of colonists riot agaist British troops. Throwing snowballs and and using clubs. Thomas Preston tells his troops not to shoot but after getting hit with a club they fire anyway. When Preston asks them why they fired they said they heard fire and thought it came from him. -
Tea Act
Tea now can only be imported into the colonies from the British East India Company. This puts colony tea merchants out of buisnes. Gives the British a monopoly on tea. The tax is three pence a pound. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists dressed as Native Americans dump 90,000 pounds of tea intoo the Boston harbor. 116 people participated in duping the tea overboard. The tea is woth about one million dollars in todays money. -
Intolerable acts
intolerable actsEngland closes the port of Boston until tea is paid for .Britian also made them pay for the tea, and also closed all town meetings. England calles them coersive acts, but the colonists call them the intolerable acts. -
The First Continental Congress
coloniesLeaders from the colonies except georgia talk about how prepare for war and deal with the intolerable acts.This takes place in philadelphia. They decide to meet again but war starts before then. -
Paul Reveres ride
Paul ReverePaul Revere and 2 other horsemen warn the colonists of British troops coming. He screams the regulars are coming the regulars are coming and it woke up the colonists. Now they are armed, awake and ready for war. -
Lexington and Concord
LexingtonApril 18-19, 1775, British troops hear of colonists storing weapons in Concord and go there to seize them. Before they can get there, 77 minutemen are waiting for them in Lexington where the “Shot heard around the world” happened. In the battle at Lexington 8 farmers die.
