  • The great awakening

    100 years after the pilgrims there was a general trend away from religion and toward economic gain. they had a want for material items and wealth start to replace religious beliefs with the younger generations this creates a social economic gap between the people who stray away from religion and the ones who stay with religion.
  • French and Indian war

    Turning point in history colonial wars France and England fighting each other many wars leading up to this war. reasons for war, 1 land competition, 2 wand the north american trade routes, 3 alliances with the native tribes, with the lesser value of fur the friendliness stops between France and England, 4 European wars
  • join or die political propaganda cartoon.

    because of the fear of a strong central power Benjamin Franklin proposes a cartoon to represent what will happen if the states do not come together. he made this before the Albany plan of union but didn't use it until later.
  • Albany plan of union by Benjamin Franklin

    plan proposed by Benjamin Franklin that wanted the colonies under one government. he wanted a semi autonomous government and a state controlled govt. models the govt. of the Iroquoian confederacy gov could levy taxes, have a military, treaties with natives, settle new land, and build forts it gets rejected fear of a strong central power.
  • sugar act

    this was a tax to try and decrease smuggling and lower the molasses tax. it was an inderect tax (added to the price of the sugar) issued writs of assistance this allowed people to search the ship whenever they wanted.
  • stamp act

    tax on all printed goods in the colony direct tax paid separate from the item made it difficult to buy. the colonist thought these taxes violated their fundamental rights and thought they had no representation for the taxation.
  • Boycotts

    a group of people came together to make the sons of liberty and talk government. decided they waned to do boycotts because they are effective but they are hard to organize. they had to convince merchants to not hold British goods violence was another method but it was illegal. some tarring and feathering happened people continued smuggling and refused to pay taxes.
  • quartering act

    After all of the violence and boycotts the British believed it would be a good idea to start housing soldiers in the colonists homes to persuade them from revolting this had the exact opposite effect. this increased tensions and made people feel opressed and violated.
  • tea act

    this was a tax by the British government on tea they did this because of the east India tea company going out of business they where going out of business and poor investment led them this way this adds a heavy tax on the tea and limits the colonists to only be able to buy British tea creating a monopoly. this outrages the colonists.
  • Boston tea party

    as a result of the tea act the son of liberty devise a plan to dress up as Mohawk Indians and raid a British ship with lots of tea and dump it in to the ocean they successfully throw 352 chests full of tea in to the ocean destroying 1-3 million dollars worth of tea.
