French & Indian War
After many previous inconclusive wars between the British and the French in the late 17th/ early 18th centuries, conflict is sparked. Fought over land (ohio river valley), French-Native American trade relationship, & whether or not they should be converting Native Americans. -
Proclamation of 1763
Established a proclamation line along the Appalachians that the colonists weren't allowed to cross, to avoid further conflict with Native Americans. -
Treaty of Paris
An end to the war, the Treaty of Paris is signed. While land was being taken over by Great Britain the treaty permitted Spain to keep their land west of the Mississippi and the city of New Orleans. -
Sugar Act & colonists response
Due to colonists stealing goods, the sugar act was enacted.
It reduced the time colonists' worked, lowered tax rates, and made sure colonists disobeying the acts were tried. Colonial merchants complained that it would reduce their profits.Merchants and traders said parliament had no right to tax colonists because they had not elected representatives to the body. -

Declaratory Act
An act of the parliament of Great Britain, which accompanied the repeal of the Stamp Act, and the lessening and changing of the Sugar Act. -
Townshend Acts & colonists response, Why they were repealed
Passed by British Parliament that imposed duties on glass, lead, paper, and tea that was imported relating to the British colonies in North America. This was a cause to more conflict which lead to the North persuading Parliament to repeal the Townshend Acts on all taxes except for tea. -
Sons of Liberty is formed & Samuel Adams
Men who formed and led a group that boycotted against British goods. -
Boston Massacre
A mob gathered in front of the Boston customs house and taunted British soldiers. Shots were fired at colonists, leading to further conflict. -
Tea Act
Left the taxes on tea only to the colonial tea sellers. -
Boston Tea Party
Boston rebels disguised themselves as Native Americans and dumped British tea into the harbor to boycott the taxes on tea.
