The Tea Act
The Tea Act, passed by Parliament on May 10, 1773, would launch the final spark to the revolutionary war. The act was not intended to raise revenue in the American colonies, and in fact imposed no new taxes. It was designed to help the East India Company which had eighteen million pounds of unsold tea. This tea was to be shipped directly to the colonies, and sold at a bargain price. The Townshend Duties were still in place. -
Boston Tea Party
This action, part of a wave of resistance throughout the colonies., and 500,000 pounds of tea were shipped across the Atltic and most was distoied in a riot of people dressed as indians. -
Coercive/Intolerable Acts
Passed in response to the Americans' revolt, the Coercive Acts included:The Boston Port Act, which closed the port of Boston until damages from the Boston Tea Party were paid.the colinists were angry The Massachusetts Government Act, which restricted Massachusetts; democratic town meetings and turned the governor's council into an appointed body.
The Administration of Justice Act, which made British officials immune to criminal prosecution in Massachusetts. -
