End of the French and Indian war
War The French and Indian War started in 1754 and ended in 1763. It was a war between France and Britain. The 13 Colonies wanted the Ohio River Valley and it was French land. The colonists wanted the war because of the land. This helped lead to the outbreak of war because when the colonist were moving west they started being attacked, and the king wouldn’t send soldiers to protect them. And the colonist were angry at that. -
The Proclamation of 1763
1773In 1763 there was an act passed by parliament, it was called the Proclamation of 1763. King George III said colonists could not move west of the Appalachian Mountains. He did not want to keep protecting the colonists from Indian attacks. However, the colonists were angry that the King would not protect them, they decided to ignore the act and moved west anyway. This helped lead to the breakout of the war because it showed that they could be independent. -
Sugar Act
SugarThe Sugar Act was passed in 1764. This put a tax on sugar and molasses. The colonist’s view was that it was unfair, thus creating the saying “No Taxation without Representation!” They refused to buy taxed sugar, also known as boycotting. Instead of buying the sugar, they started to smuggle it. This helped lead to the breakout of the war because the saying “No taxation without Representation!” is showing that they will not support these taxes if they don't have a representative in parliament. -
Quartering Act
Quartering ActThe quartering act was in 1765. The quartering act forced colonist to house Britain soldiers. The colonist thought this of a violation of their rights. They were outraged. The colonist would refuse to house the soldiers and showed violence toward the soldiers. This helped lead to the outbreak of war because the colonist believed that Britain was making bad decisions and only thinking about what would benefit England. -
Stamp Act
stamp actThe stamp act started in 1765. The act required special tax stamps for legal papers, newspapers, dice, cards and a lot of others. The colonist did not like this act. They thought it was unfair to have these taxes because they had no person in England defending them in parliament. Their slogan was no taxation without representation. The colonist would boycott the things that required the special tax stamp. Also sent petitions to the king, smuggle the items in, and or they would use violence. This -
Townshend Acts
ActThe Townshend Acts were passed in 1767. This act was a tax on imports like glass, paper, and tea. It also allowed officers to use the Writ of Assistance to search colonial ships for smuggled goods. The colonists thought the Writs of Assistance violated their rights and that their shouldn't be taxes if they don't have representation in parliament. They boycotted and signed Non-Importation Agreements. This helped lead to the breakout of war because it showed that they didn't approve of parliament. -
Boston Massacre
BostonThe Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770. This event happened between about 9 British soldiers and colonists. The colonists were taunting a British soldier for looking for extra work, and eventually the situation got out of hand. There was a miss-communication between the British Captain and soldiers, and this resulted in the death of 5 colonists. The colonists were outraged. This helped lead to the breakout of the war, the colonists felt like they needed to avenge their fallen brothers. -
Tea Act
TeaThe Tea Act of 1773 allowed colonists to import British tea directly from India. The tea was still taxed, but it was much cheaper. However, the colonists saw it as a trick to accept being taxed. Their reaction was to dress as Mohawk Indians and dump all the tea into the Boston Harbor. This helped lead to the outbreak of war because after this they held the First Continental Congress. -

Tea PartyThe Boston tea party was on 12-16,1773.This was when the Sons and Daughters of Liberty went on a boat and dumped all of the tea that was on the boat into the Boston Harbor.This event happened because of the tea tax on the tea that came into the colonies.Colonist thought this was a way to show Britain that they didn’t liked being taxed, but some didn’t.This lead to war because Britain put another tax on Massachusetts. -
The First Continental Congress
Continental CongressThe First Continental Congress was on September 5, 1774. This was a meeting of representatives from 12 of the 13 colonies. It took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to discuss how to respond to the Intolerable Acts. They demanded a repeal of the Intolerable Acts. This lead to war because they talked about preparing for war by training citizens for war. The colonist thought this was a good way to solve problems and come together. -
Coercive/Intolerable Act
IntolerableThe Intolerable Acts were in 1774. They were a punishment for Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. This act banned town meetings and closed the Boston Harbor until the tea was paid for there was also a new quartering act put in action. The Colonists were outraged they felt these punishments were way too harsh. The other colonies supported Massachusetts by bringing goods they couldn’t get because the harbor was closed. Paul Revere's Ride
RidePaul Revere’s midnight ride was in April 18, 1775. The sons of Liberty learned that the British were going to steal their weapons. Paul Revere, Sam Prescott, and Billy Dawes rode in the middle of the night to warn the colonists and militia that the British were coming. The colonist were not fully aware of what was happening. Their reaction at first was terror. This lead to the outbreak of war because the British invaded the colonies, and that angered them. Sp, they decided to start war. -
The Battle of Lexingotn and Concord
WarThe battle of Lexington and Concord was on April 19 1775. This was the first battle of the Revolutionary war. It was because of the British coming and trying to take the weapons that the colonies had stored. The officer of the colonist said not to fire but if the British fired to fire back. The colonist wanted to protect their rights not let the British take their weapons so they thought it was the right thing to do. It was the first battle of the war so this lead to the other battles of the war
