    All 13 colonies voted YES on declaring independence. Voted on lee's resolution for independce.

    12 of the 13 colony leaders showed up for a meeting. The one that didn't show was Georgia. Patrick Henry wanted all the colonies to unite in firm resistance to Britain.

    1,000's of Redcoats in Boston
    Several of thousands of troops were brought by General Gage in and around Boston. There were also more on the way. He had orders to seize weapons from the Massachusetts militia and arrest the leaders.

    Protest colonial leader Dr.Joseph Warren was walking through Boston watching for any unusual activity by the British. He saw troops walking out to the city and alerted Paul revere and William Dawes. They both ride their horses through Lexington east of concord warning the poeple of the coming troops.

    it was the first battle of the revolutionary war. The British ended up winning. Ralph Waldo Emerson said "Shot heard round the world".

    The Americans ended up stopping the British. They force them to retreat back to Boston

    Capture of Fort Ticonderoga
    Benedict Arnold and Ethan Allen his partner captured the Fort. They got all the supplies including the cannons. The Americans ended up winning.

    Second Continental Congress meet
    Included some of the greatest leaders in the colonies. Among them were John and Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Richard Henry Lee, and George Washington. Several new delegates came as well. Set up a post office. Printed money and created a continental Army led by Washington. John Hancock was chosen by the delegates to be president of the Second Continental Congress. They sent an Olive branch asking the King to protect their rights. The king hired 30,000 Hessian soldiers in response.

    The battle happened on Breed's Hill. The British won because the Americans ran out of ammunition. The British learn defeating Americans would not be easy. William Prescott told the troops "Don't Fire until you see the whites of their eyes".

    Washington relazied that the men were disorganized and needed discipline. He started turning armed civilians into soldiers. He also needed weapons he arranged to have a dozen cannons hauled 300 miles from Fort Ticonderoga.

    Pamphlet inspires more colonists to become patriots. "Every thing has a right or is reasonable pleads for separation. The blood of slain, the weeping voice of nature cries, 'TIS TIME TO PART"-Thomas Paine Common sense.

    Washington believes his army is ready to fight. He moved soliders and connons into a overlooking postion of Boston under the dark. Did this while the red coats were sleeping.

    There is a debate on declaring independence. Thomas Jefferson is the primary author of the document. Filled with spirited debate.

    The Deceleration o Independence is signed!
    Delegates approved the document after some changes. Copies were printed and sent out to people in newly declared states.
