  • Treaty of Paris Signed

    The Treaty of Paris was signed to end the fighting between Great Britain and France during the French and Indian war/ Seven years' war. The treaty caused France to give up all of its territories in North America which stopped the threat of war against the British colonies.
  • Proclamation Act Passed

    The king said that the people in America couldn't move any further west than a line near the Appalachian Mountains. This made the colonists angry because they wanted to continue expanding and wanted to keep control of their government.
  • Sugar Act Passed

    Was an edited version of the Sugar and Molasses act of 1733 the new act reduced the price from 6 pence to 3 pence but was much more strictly enforced. The Sugar act also put taxes on other items such as sugar, certain wines, coffee, pimento, cambric and printed calico.
  • Stamp Act Passed

    Made colonists have to pay a tax on all paper. The colonists said that this tax was completely unfair and used violence to resist this act.
  • Quartering act

    Forced the colonists to harbor British soldiers first in public houses than into peoples personal homes. The colonists didn't like being told what to do and would rather have a say in the acts so the resisted this act also.
  • Stamp Act Congress Created

    A congress of all the colonies brought together to try and fight all the taxing that they were going through. This didn't work well at first because some of the colonies didn't send anyone to go to them and the group immediately split and argued about how to go about fixing the problem.
  • Declaration of Rights and Grievances Written

    A paper written by the stamp act congress. It said that it was unfair to tax them without getting their okay.
  • Stamp Act Repealed

    After only 4 months of it being in place the stamp act is repealed because of all the protesting in America. Although the same day the Declaratory act was passed.
  • Declaratory Acts Passed

    The King repealed the stamp act but made more tough rules in the declaratory act.
  • Townshend Acts Passed

    This was a series of acts containing 5 acts that no one quite knows which ones. The most common mentioned are the revenue act the indemnity act the commissioners of customs act the vice admiralty act and the New York restraining act.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was not actually a massacre it was portrayed as this to get Americans fired up against the king. Only 5 colonists were killed because of the tensions.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Samuel Adams and the Sons of liberty threw 342 chests of tea from 3 different ships into the Boston harbor as an act of defiance.
  • The Committee of Correspondence was formed

    The committee of correspondence helped to unite the colonies against the king.
  • Tea Act Passed

    The tea act was put in place to bail out the east india company the colonists were again mad about this. The colonists then revolted and had the Boston tea party.
  • Intolerable Acts Passed

    Very tough laws meant to punish the colonists for of of there rebelling.
  • 1st Continental Congress Met

    A meeting where delegates from the 13 colonies came together to try and unite and consider options in ways to respond against the intolerable acts.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    These battles started the revolutionary war, Paul Revere sounded the alarm and the colonists fought the British off.
  • Battle at Bunker Hill

    The British beat the Americans but despite this the battle instilled confidence in the colonists.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    The final attempt to avoid a serious war was the Olive Branch Petition. Although it didn't work because of the next declaration they sent.
  • Common Sense Published

    A pamphlet that in support of independence written by Thomas Paine. It was written in prose to encourage the colonists to fight back.
  • Declaration of Independence

    A document declaring our independence from the King and the British.
