Road to Revolution

  • Treaty of Paris

Th treaty of Paris ended the french and Indian war after seven years. The treaty gave different parts of land to the different countries. The British blamed the colonists for the war. This resulted in the Sugar Act.
  • Sugar Act

The Sugar Acts goal was to decrease smuggling in the colonies. It gave Britian the giht to search the colonists property without warrent and added anindirect tax to sugar. This resulted in the stamp act.
  • Stamp Act

The Stamp Act placed a tax on all printed goods. The colonists taxes were now paid seperate from their items. The colonists felt their rights were violated and resisted the stamp act. The colonists started using illegal methods of getting out of the stamp act and this caused the Townshed Act.
  • Townshed Act

The townshed act repelled the stamp act and replaced them with the Townshed act. This taxes all glass, paint, and tea. This lead to the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

The Boston Tea Party was an act of resistence against Great Britian on Bostons part. The Sons of Liberty dumped $1-3 million dollars worth of tea into the Boston Harbor. This angered the king in Britian who decided to send troups and punish those involved in this act. As an effect of the Boston Tea Party the British decided to create the Intolerable Acts.
  • Boston Tea Act

The British passed the tea act which placed a tax on tea. Great Britian did this because East India trading company was going bankrupt and they were a huge part of Great Britians economy. The colonists were outraged by the tea act and resisted the tea act by forming the Sons of Liberty and planned the Boston Tea Party.
  • Intolerable Acts

The Intolerable acts were The Quartering Act (forced colonists to feed and house British soldiers), The Boston Port Act (which closed the Boston harbor until all debt from the Boston Tea Party was paid), The Massachusetts Government Act (which restricted town meetings in Boston), and the Administrative justice Act (which made British officials immune to prosecution in Massachusetts). These acts caused some colonists to revolt and start the first Continetal Congress.
  • Lexington and Concord

After hearing about the red coats coming to Concord, the militia came to Lexinton. As the British went through the town 8 militiamen were shot dead and only 1 red coat was wounded. The British proceeded to Concord. When the British found the militiamen they shot first. ( shot heard 'round the world). But later on in the fight the militiamen really fought back, showing the British they had something to fight against. This cause the Battle on Bunker Hill.
  • Battle On Bunker Hill

The British defeated the Americans in this battle but the battle gave the Americans a boots of confidence for the war and more expierence. Battle on Bunker hill brought the colonies together . The king in G.B. declared the colonies as being in a state of rebellion. This resulted in a man writing "common sense".
  • Common Sense

Thomous Paine wrote "Common Sense" to show the arguments on why the colonist should have freedom from G.B. It sold over half a million copies and was a big influence on the colonists.
