  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation limited how far the colonists could expand into native land to preserve our alliances and reduce violence.
    Colonists did not like this becasue it limited their economic growth and access to the fur trade.
  • The Sugar Act of 1764

    The Sugar Act of 1764
    This act taxed molasses and other sweeteners by 3 pence a gallon to help pay for the French and Indian War. Colonists were not happy because they did not have a say in the creation of this act.
  • Currency Act of 1764

    Currency Act of 1764
    British merchants were having to accept lower value paper war debt money. This left them with less money than they were owed. This act made it harder for colonists to pay debt, as merchants no longer accepted the colonists paper money to pay off debts. This left many colonists in deep debt. This was not taken well.
  • The Quartering Act of 1765

    The Quartering Act of 1765
    This act made colonists provide housing and funding for British Soldiers. This eased Britians debt, but angered the colonists as that this was uncalled for and did not include any input from the colonies.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    Stamp Act Congress
    The Stamp Act was to come to be in November, so the colonies created a congress to asses the situation and find a suitable way to resist the new taxes. They ended up righting a paper called the Decleration of Rights and Grievances that was essentialy a petition to allow them to have a say in parliment.

    The Stamp act of 1765
    This was another fund raising act to help pay for the French and Indian war. This imposed a tax that made colonists pay extra money to use, recieve, and process printed goods, from newspapers to mail. Also, this act caused colonists to somewhat unite to decide how they would protest it.
  • The Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act
    After hearing the protests of the stamp act, it was repealed on the condition that from now on England had full power over the colonies. This angered the colonists even further, as they didn't care about the stamp act as long as they had a say in the parliment and it's proccedings. This anger was mostly due to england's misinterpretation of the colonist's wishes.
  • The Townshend Acts of 1767

    The Townshend Acts of 1767
    This act was a series of acts to force colonists to comply with previous taxes and laws such as teh quartering act, often with devastating consequences such as economic failure in Boston. This led to many uprisings such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and eventualy, the Revolutionary War.
