The French and Indian war begun in 1754 and was fought between the British and Native Americans. This war helped Great Britain gain a great amount of land in North America. -
The Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 meant that colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This was to avoid conflict with the Natives. -
The Sugar Act
This act meant that colonists had to pay a tax on all sugar-based products. -
Stamp Act of 1765
The Stamp Act of 1765 meant that colonists had to pay a tax on all paper products. To prove you paid the tax, you would get a stamp, you would also need to pay a tax on the stamp. -
Townshend Acts of 1767
These acts meant that colonists had to pay taxes on paper, lead, tea, glass and, paint. -
The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a confrontation between some redcoats and colonists protesting the Townshend Acts. Five people were killed. -
Tea Act
The tea act meant that the British East India Company which was having financial troubles didn't have to go through England and was able to cut off merchants in the colonies, driving the price of tea up and preventing some people from making money. -
The Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was the event where the Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and boarded a ship with a lot of tea from England. They threw all the tea overboard. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were laws given to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. They removed self-ruling in Massachusetts, closed Boston Harbor, and made it so that people had to give shelter to British troops in their colony. -
1st Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a meeting of representatives from every colony except Georgia.
