  • First meeting of colonies

    11 colonies sent representatives to Albany to discuss the threat of war with France. Benjamin Franklin came up with the Albany Plan of Union: a single government for all the colonies

  • Treaty of Paris

    The French and Indian War ends. Great Britain stands victorious and France gives up Canada and all the land east of the Mississippi River to Britain. Also, Spain takes the Louisiana Territory from France and Britain takes control of Florida
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Natives in former French territory began to rebel against the British, so the Proclamation set the Appalachian Mountains as the western border
  • The Sugar Act

    After the F&I War, Great Britain was in debt so the Parliament imposed the Sugar Act on Molasses and Sugar
  • Quartering act

    This act made it mandatory for colonies to provide barracks and supplies for British troops.
  • Stamp Act

    This act put a tax on licenses, college diplomas, playing cards, advertisements, newspapers, and legal documents.
  • Townshend Act

    Taxes affected imported goods such as glass, tea, and paper, and like all the other taxes, the colonists were furious.
  • Boston Massacre

    British troops killed 5 men near the customs house because the colonists were throwing sticks and rocks at the soldiers, so the soldiers reluctantly open fired and killed 5 men.

    This act allowed the British East India Company to become a monopoly which meant that American Merchants couldn't profit from tea.

    A group of men from Sons of Liberty disguised as Mohawks boarded tea ships, and dumped 342 chess of tea into Boston Harbor

  • Continental Congress

    The first meeting of Continental Congress with delegates from 12 colonies to discuss the threat of war with Britain.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    At the 2nd Continental Congress, the delegates proposed one last petition offering Britain peace between the two conflicting sides. The British reject the petition.
  • Battle at Bunker Hill

    1,200 men were stationed on Breed's Hill. British General Thomas Gage decides to attack, and they won, but suffered major casualties (over 1000 men) On the other hand, the minutemen only lost about 400 of their men.
  • 2nd Continental Congress

    The Continental Congress meet again including even more delegates and decide to create a continental army with GW as commander and a post office with Ben Franklin in control.
  • Common Sense

    Thomas Paine wrote this book to persuade people to support the revolution. He included reasons such as Britain is dragging us into their conflicts and they are too far away to govern us.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Thomas Jefferson is chosen to draft the Declaration of Independence. 56 delegates signed the Declaration on July 4th.
