  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    This was the war fought between England and France. The cause of this war because this was what would decide the future. England wanted land territories, control over trade routes, alliances with Native American tribes, European wars, and traditional enemies. Some of the effects of the war was increase in taxes and Britain left their troops in America.
  • Proclamation Line

    Proclamation Line
    This proclamation ended westward expansion and forbid settlement in Ohio River Valley. This caused strict enforcement. Part of the reason for the Proclamation was to calm the natives from the removal of the French. In effect, it prevented them from using the rivers to trade and also to expand.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The goal of this act was to prevent the smuggling of sugar and molasses, by lowering the tax. This act was put in place to stop the smuggling of the sugar and molasses but also raise money for Britain's dept. In effect, there were more strict smuggling laws put onto the colonists. Making the colonists forced to pay higher prices for molasses and sugar.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This was tax on all power documents, put in place by the British Parliament. The tax was represented by a stamp, this was not approved by the colonial legislatures. This act occurred because it was to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies. This caused all the rage to build up in the colonists after all the acts being put on them. They then performed boycotts and rallies against the British. They also caused the Daughters and Sons of Liberty to be formed.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This was the tax on glass, paint, and tea. This happened because the British had repealed the stamp act and they needed the money to finance for the troops and pay for the American colonies. Boycotts were formed by colonists to get the act repealed. The colonists had to representation in Parliament so they viewed this act as such abuse to their power.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act required colonists to house and feed British soldiers. This was because of the costs of defense and getting money from British colonies. In effect the colonies had to pay more money for and for an extra person in their home. Giving/making more food and paying more money for their needs.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    It was a riot that occurred on King St in Boston. It quickly escalated as 5 men died. The colonists were already unhappy with 2,000 British Soldiers in their town. While they were also enforcing tax on products (taxation without representation). They had the right to life, liberty, and property and this took away the right of life. This lead to the beginning of the American Revolution and helped bring the colonists together to defend against the British.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    This was a protest that the colonists held in frustration to the British. To show their frustration they dumped 342 chests of tea, that had been imported by the British, in the harbor. This event happened in frustration to the British using ¨taxation without representation¨. Since the British had been taxing them unfairly this was what they did to show they would not tolerate it. In return, the British created the Coercive Acts for the damage done. (fined for destroyed tea)
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    There were militia forming in MA and of course the king had to react immediately. The goal was to seize leaders and munitions. They wanted to this to prevent the rebellion of the colonists, but they found nothing. There were 273 Great Britain deaths. This lead into the Revolution because they wanted their political independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    This document declared the US independence from Great Britain. It protected the rights of colonists and also stated Great Britain did not respect their rights. This document was written to show that colonists had the right to independence and revolution. In effect, this document allowed the colonies to be independent, unite all the colonies in war against Great Britain
