  • The French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War
    France kept expanding their territory creating many smaller conflicts with the British colonies in the 1750's. The French had a few victories defeating George Washington when he was younger, in 1754 and 1755. In 1756 the British declared war against the French. The British spent a lot of money for the war and won at Louisburg, on July 1758.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Colonists started to expand their territory to the west, but in 1763 the Pontiac Indians rebelled against them. King George the Third, did not want war, because they didn't have much money left. So, he made a proclamation to all the Colonists that they were not allowed to colonize any land west of the Appalachian Mountains. However the Colonists still wanted to colonize west.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was a tax by the Parliament because after the 7 year long French and Indian war, they had barely any money left. They decided to tax colonists with any purchase of Sugar, or any item, good, etc. that had sugar in it. The colonists were angry because they believed that if they paid taxes, they should get representation in making bug decisions. The Colonists did not like this and started to protest.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765
    A new tax payment arose for the Colonists. They had to pay tax for any paper they bought. Newspapers, the bible, books, and even had to pay tax for the stamps or seals themselves. This arose many riots started by the Sons of Liberty, the Stamp Act ended 1766.
  • Townshend Act 1767

    Townshend Act 1767
    The Townshend Act was a tax for the Colonists on any glass, lead, paper, paints, or tea they bought. The Colonists were angry that they had to pay tax without representation. They boycotted British goods, as a protest against the Townshend Act. The Sons of Liberty protested with violence, and started some attacks. British troops were sent to hopefully solve the matters in 1768.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    A British solider struck a Colonist. The Colonists insulted, taunted, and beat the Solider March 5, 1770. More British soldiers came and in open fire killed five more colonists. The Colonists were more resentful towards the British after the shootings. The Colonists called these events the Boston Massacre.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Parliament created the Tea Act in 1773 so that the British East India trading company could sell cheap tea. A lot of Merchants smuggled tea so they wouldn't have to pay the tax. They started losing money because they could not compare to the British cheap tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party happened after the Tea Act started. Colonists couldn't sell tea with the British's companies, and they had to pay tax when they bought tea. Colonists disguised as Indians and attacked the British ship throwing all their tea overboard on December 16, 1773. This event is known as the Boston tea party.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were done as to punish the Colonists for the Boston Tea Party. They Closed Boston Harbor, the Massachusetts's Charter got canceled, British General Thomas Gage, was the new governor of Massachusetts, and any Royal Officials that were accused of crimes had to go to trial in Great Britain.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    All the delegate of the colonies besides Georgia, met in Philadelphia which became known as the 1st Continental Congress. The delegates warned the Colonial militia to prepare for war with Britain because they stopped trading with Britain. They did this with the Declaration of Rights, that includes rights to life, liberty, and property. Colonials became Patriots when they chose to stick with other Colonials and have their own independence.
