This declared all land west of the Appalachian mountains. This was in response to the French-Indianm war. -
The Sugar Act
The Parliament of Britain increased taxes on the colonies, angering them. Theis enforced the colonits' negative connotations of Britain. -
Committee of Correspondance
A committee created to address certain problems when they arose. The group met in secret and has a very hard to trace history. -
The Stamp Act
Colonists had to pay for any printed paper they used. This ranged from home paper to official documents. -
The Quartering Act
England makes it so that even in peace time, colonists must house and provide for British soldiers. This doubled as a way to renew the previous quartering act that expired in 1764. -
Stamp Act Congress
A group of colonists organized to come to a conclusion about what to do regarding the Stamp Act. They decided to make a declaration of grievances. -
Declaration of Rights and Grievances
The declaration said that the colonists were belonging to the crown, but still their own place, and could have their own rules. This was made to show that taxes presented by the British were unconstitutional. -
Stamp Act Repealed
The stamp act was repealed in response to protests. This was a start to the successes of the revolution. -

The colonists created an act to try to lessen taxes on themselves. The British parliament thought that this was implied, and viewed it as no big matter. -

This was created to increase the pay for governers and judges. This was later reppealed due to rioting. -

A streetfight broke out between the british and the colonists. Some colonists were killed and this resulted in a public speech. -
Tea Act
A monopoly over tea was given to Britain for the colonies, and increased taxes on tea. This was because the british tea industry was currently failing financially. -
Boston Tea Party
The colonists boarded a ship carrying tea and threw it into the Boston River. This was a political protest. -
Intolerable Acts
Created in response to the Boston Tea Party, this act punished the colonists. This was a major if not the largest turning point against the British. -
First Continental Congress
A meeting created by 12 of the 13 colonies. The congress created a petition of Grievances. -
Battles of Lexington and Concord
These were the first conflicts fought by the Americans versus the British. This marked the beginning of the fight for independence. -
Bunker Hill
The colonists were trying to seige Boston to regain it and the land around it. The main fighting point was bunker hill. -
Olive Branch Petition
A petition created to prevent war between the colonies. The petition stated that the colonies would become obedient to the king, which was promptly denied. -
Common Sense
Thomas Paine wrote a pamphlet urging the colonies to fight for their independence. As of 2006 it was still the best selling American title. -
Declaration of Independence
America declares independence from Great Britain, without Britain's approval. This allowed America to ally with France and gain an ally.
