Proclamation of 1763
The King said that any colonists that settled past the Appalachian mountains would receive no protection from the British crown even though the land belonged to the British.
They did this to keep the tensions with the natives from rising again. -
Proclamation line
A line agreed upon by France after their defeat. It marked off the land that they were giving up to the Spanish and the Americans -
Stamp Act
Act placed on the colonies that taxed all paper materials, and goods -
Quartering act
Act that stated you were forced to house, food, and care for any British soldier that needs it no matter what. -
Declaratory Acts
Repealed the Stamp Act, and lessened the impact of the Sugar act -
Townshend Acts
Acts taxing different products. Started in 1767 and ended in 1770 when Britain repealed all the acts. -
Boston Massacre
happened during a face off between angry colonists and British soldiers. 5 colonists died -
Committee Of Correspondents
rallied colonial opposition, and created a union with all thirteen colonies. -
Tea Acts
reduce the massive amount of tea held by the financially troubled British East India Company in its London warehouses and to help the struggling company survive -
Boston Tea Party
Political protest against English tea. They protested by dumping hundreds of barrels or tea into Boston Harbor -
Intolerable Acts
acts meant to Punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party -
"Shot Heard Round The World"
This refers to the first shot fired at the battle of Lexington. No one knows who fired this famous shot. -
