1.Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris eneded the seven year war known as the French and Indian war between Great Britain and France. France gave up all of its territories in mainland North America, which ended military threats toward Britian colonies. -
2. Proclamation Act
The act ened the French and Idian war. It was a cause for great celebration, for it opened up new oppportunities for the colonists. The proclamation also established three new colonies; Quebec, West Florida, and East Florida. -
3. Committe of Correspondence
Committees of Correspondence were shadow goverments organized by the Patriot leaders of the Thirteen Colonies. They were the first institution for maintaining communication with one another. -
4. The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was used to reduce the rate of tax on molasses from 6 pence to 3 pence. It also taxed wines, coffee, cambric and printed calico. -
5. The Stampt Act
The tax was charged on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. The money collected was to be used to help pay the costs of defending and protecting the American frontier. -
6. The Quartering Act
It required the colonies to house British Soldiers. The colonists sometimes had to give up their own beds for the British soldiers. -
7. Declaration of Rights and Grievances
It was written by the Stamp Act Congress. It had 14 points of colonial protest including the issue of taxes witout permission is unconstitutional. -
8. Stamp Act Congress
The Stamp Act Congress met in New York city. Because of the Stamp Act, the colonists yelled "no taxation without representation!" -
10. Stamp Act Repealed
Merchants contacted their local representatives in parliament and expressed their concerns about the repeal. Only about 5 people voted against the repeal of the Stamp Act. -
9. Delaratory Act
This law stated that Parliament had the right to tax America. -
11. Townshend Act
The Townshend Act put taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea that was imported into the colonies. Americans viewed it as an abuse of power and fought for the taxations to be repealed. -
12. Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a street fight between a patriot mob, that threw snowballs, stones, and sticks at a squad of British soldiers. Severak colonists were killed and this led to a campaign. -
13. Tea Act
The main purpose of the act was not to raise revenue from the colonies, but to bail out the struggling East India Company. -
15. Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was organized by a group of Patriots led by Samual Adams. The Boston Tea Party happened because the American colonists believed Britain was unfairly taxing them to pay expenses during the French and Indian War. -
14. Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts is a series of laws passed by the British parliament after the Boston Tea Party. They were meant to punish Massachusetts colonists for throwing tea into the Boston harbor. -
16. 1st Continental Congress
It was a meeting of the delegates from 12 out of the 13 colonies. It was held in Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania early in the American Revolution. -
19. Lexington & Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord started the American Revolutionary War. Tensions had been biulding for many years between the thirteen American colonies. -
17. Bunker Hill
The British defeat the Americans in Massachusetts. But, the amount of casualties is larger in the British side, they had 200 killed and 800 wounded while the Americans had 100 killed and 300 wounded. -
18. Olive Branch Petition
This petition was adopted by the Second Continental Congress, in finializing war between the Thirteen Colonies. The petition declared American loyalty to Great Britain. -
20. Common Sense
Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine. It inspired people from the 13 colonies to declare their independence from Great Britain. -
21. Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is statment that was adopted by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its states that the 13 American colonies were now 13 independent colonies and they are no longer a part of the British empire.
