Proclamation of 1763
This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists and Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proplamation becaue they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French an Indian War. -
Quatering Act
Made colonists have to provide British soldiers with supplies and food. Colonists had to also tax part of the war debt from the French and Indian War. Many colonists didin't let soldiers inside their house. -
Townshend Act
Colonist had to pay taxes for glass, paint, lead, tea, and any other goods from anywhere. The colonists were outraged by thisact. This act was enforced by British officer's using search warrants because colonists would not pay, so they would smuggle in goods. -
Tea Act; Boston Tea Party
Parliament repeals the Townshend Act but still kept the tax for tea. Tea Act is passed and it says that that Britian controls all tea trade. Colonists are outraged because they cannot sell to other colonists and Son's of Liberty organize a group to destroy British tea. -
Intolerable Act
Britian becomes angry at colonists for Boston Tea Party. Parliament passes Intlerable Act which means the Boston port getsclosed until colonists pay for destroyed tea. It allows soldier's to house anytime. British officals accused of crime to be on trial in Britian. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
On April 1775, 700 British soldiersw mett at Lexington nad are confronted by 70 militiamen. A war begins and 8 militiamen die. The first shot was called the ''shot heard around the world.'' British soldiers reach some of colonists supplie's. Soldiers then fight more militiamen and Minutemen at Concord but are forced to retreat. Lexington and Concordwere the first battles in the Revolutionary War. -
Olive Branch Petition
In July 1775, the American colonists send a Olive Branch Petition to try to make a treaty and end fighting but the British king refused. Then the king blocks all american ships from leaving. The king also made German soldiers (Hessians) help fight the colonists. -
Declaration of Independence
On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted something called The Declaration of Independence. It states that the colonists are now offically indepentant. It says that the government can't take away the citizens rights and if the government doesn't protect those rights then the government doesn't have the right to govern the people.
