French and Indian War 1754-1763
Leading up to the French and Indian war the American colonist began to expand west, however, they soon conflicted with the French. After many years of fighting it finally came to a close as the Treaty of Paris was signed this forced France to give up the North American territory. Additionally, Britain had won the land East to the Mississippi River and Spain gained the the land west. -
Second Continental Congress 1755
The Second Continental Congress established an army called the Continental Army. They later issued the Declaration of Independence which would soon declare independence from Great Britain. They also created the official Untied States Flag. The Second Continental Congress was much more successful than the First because they created an actual government which was more organized and all of the colonies were represented. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was a law passed which prohibits settlement in Appalachian Mountains. -
Sugar Act 1764
The Sugar Act is where the British enforcement tax on sugar, molasses, and other products the tax was used to pay for the 7 year war. This angered the colonist because they used sugar for everything and they didn’t believe they needed to pay tax for an every day items. For this reason the colonist began to raid, riot, and protest. -
Stamp Act 1765
The colonist we forced to pay tax for all kinds of paper(colonist were forced to buy paper from Britain which had stamps that showed that they had paid their taxes). The colonist however had no representation in parliament which was very important for them to have someone stand up for what they believe in and be apart or that decision. -
Quartering Act 1765
The Quartering Act forced American colonies to provide food and housing for all British Soldiers. -
Boston Massacre 1770
The Boston Massacre began as a small argument between the colonist and British Private Hugh White outside of the Custom house. As time went on the argument to turn violent the colonist began to assault Private White by throwing sticks and snow. Later more soldiers where called to help control the crowd but something sparked anger which caused the soldiers to shoot into the crowd. -
Boston Tea Party 1773
The Boston Tea Party was a retaliation from the colonist for making pay taxes on tea as well as only being able to op buy the tea from one source. Not only were the colonist taxed but they also had no representation in parliament meaning no one would be their to stand up for the colonist rights. For this reason the colonist decided to dress up as Native Americans and dump the tea from the ships. -
Intolerable Acts 1774
The Intolerable Acts were put in place in 1774 these acts were put in place to “chastise” the colonist. These acts included closing the port until damages were paid for, restrictions placed in town meetings, local authorities were given the authority to lodge soldiers without any question -
First Continental Congress 1774
The Fist Continental Congress was a way for the colonists to express there extreme frustration and struggles. The colonist gathered tighter and decided to write King George III about the way they were treated and they demanded the Intolerable Acts to be stopped or they would boycott. The King simply ignored the colonist request causing the colonist to boycott. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord 1775
The battle of Lexington and Concord are one of the major events that led to the start or the revolutionary war. The battle of Lexington was a small battle which no one expected to actually fight however in the mindset of the tension a shot went off which is also widely known as the “shot heard around the world”. The battle of Concord is where the Americans who were smaller in size finally defeated the British which helped restore their confidence. -
Deceleration of Independence 1776
The Declaration of Independence is when the 13 colonies declared their independence from Great Britain. This would mean they would have complete freedom from the British Empire.
