    Since the colonists could not tolerate being taxed within the colonies parliament passed a set of laws known as the Townshed acts. These new set of taxes were applied to important goods and paid at the port. Taxed items included glass, tea, paper and lead the colonists learned to do without anything they couldn't make themselves.

    When King George III and Parliament heard about the Boston Tea Party they realized they were losing control of the colonies. Parliament passed a series of laws called The Intolerable Acts that violated the colonists rights. These laws closed Boston Harbor and kept food and supplies from being delivered to Boston. They also banned Town meetings, allowed British officers to be tried in other places when accused of crimes and forced colonists to quarter soldiers in their homes.

    Colonial leaders realized the colonies needed to work together to oppose Britan. In September 1774, 54 delegates meet in Philadelphia to discuss problems with Britain. Major political leaders from all the colonies attended the Congress. they would ask Parliament to repeal 13 acts it had passed that violated colonists rights they also voted to boycott British goods. No British products could be brought into the Colonies. And no colonial goods will get to it would be shipped to Britain.
